In a time of
The unfair distribution of resources
And the violent whims of autocrats and fascists,
Of the glorification of resentment
And a disdain for learning,
It is good to recognize
Balance and renewal.
Especially when they happen
With no reference to us whatsoever.
Today is the autumnal equinox,
When daytime and nighttime are equal.
Then
Life happens
And autumn begins.
Blessed Holy Wholeness,
May we enjoy these first weeks
Of jackets and sweaters,
And all the apples and pumpkins and colorful leaves!
And may we understand and remember
Through all these darker days to come
That the light always returns. Always.
